Mill-Turn Machining

Turning and milling in a single setup. Fewer operations and tighter part-to-part consistency for components that would otherwise cycle through multiple machines.

Mill-Turn Machining

One Machine.
The Whole Part.

Mill-turn machines combine turning and milling on one platform. A part that would normally move through a lathe, then a milling center, then back for finishing can be completed in a single setup, holding tighter tolerances across the full feature set because the part never leaves the machine.

For programs with cylindrical or rotational features that also require milling, cross-holes, or angled surfaces, mill-turn machining reduces setup variation and shortens lead time without trading off dimensional control.

Douglas Machining Services in Winona, Minnesota is the platform’s primary mill-turn specialist, running nine multi-tasking mill/turn machines. The company has built its reputation around this process and serves both industrial and specialty industries with short lead times and high responsiveness on demanding part geometries.

Applications Well Suited for Mill-Turn

  • Aerospace structural fittings and housings that combine turned bores with milled faces
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic manifolds
  • Medical device shafts, connectors, and valve bodies requiring mixed feature profiles
  • Industrial automation components with rotational and milled feature requirements
  • Semiconductor process equipment parts with tight diametric and positional tolerances

Production Capacity That Reduces
Program Risk

When a mill-turn program grows beyond what one facility can sustain, Compass Precision distributes volume across facilities running compatible equipment. Programs that grow from prototype to sustained production do not move to a different supplier. The routing stays inside the platform, and the quality standard does not change.
