Quality Products Operations Manager Patrick Mayne Becomes Compass Precision Employee of the Month

Every great organization needs leaders. Over the last seven years, Quality Products & Machine has received plenty of leadership from Operations Manager Patrick Mayne.

Patrick started at the Compass Precision operating company as a machine operator. During his tenure, he’s risen the ranks to setup programmer and then to management, first as production manager and now as the overseer of all manufacturing operations.

To honor his achievements, Compass Precision has named Patrick the company’s Employee of the Month for November.

Receiving promotions because of his leadership qualities is nothing new for Patrick. He began his career as a technician at Firestone and eventually rose to lead technician during his eight-year tenure in the automotive industry.

Similar to a few of the previous Compass Precision Employee of the Month nominees, Patrick has a strong interest in cars and said that’s where he thought he wanted to be when he joined the automotive program at Central Piedmont Community College. But after eight years at Firestone, Patrick sought a career change.

“I was always interested in how things work,” he said. “But I wanted to take it one step further, and there was an opportunity with Quality Products in manufacturing.

“It’s incredible making something out of nothing,” Patrick said when describing his love for CNC machining. “Just taking a bare piece of metal that really has no value, no purpose and making it into a functional part. I just think it’s so fascinating.”

The daily tasks of his new Operations Manager role, which is a position he received in Jan. 2020, include supervising all aspects of the manufacturing floor and workflow from receiving the customer’s purchase order to product shipment. His top objective is ensuring all parts leave the company’s shop as efficiently as possible.

Patrick has also become a bit of a YouTube sensation as the on-camera star in several of Compass Precision’s marketing videos. His virtual Quality Products Factory Tour video on the social media platform has received more than 1,400 views.

Furthermore, Patrick is a big reason the work environment at Quality Products is such a great atmosphere. But he gives plenty of credit to the rest of the team too, which he described as “incredible.”

“Everyone’s a team player, and we kind of feed off each other. We’re always challenging each other and just trying to make things better. It shows in our workmanship.”

Even with his promotion, Patrick hasn’t stopped seeking to improve his leadership skills. In his time away from work, he reads self-improvement books by John C. Maxwell and Patrick Lencioni. Patrick is also currently enrolled in an online LEAN Certificate program at Clemson University in an effort to explore new ways of improving Quality Products’ efficiency.

During his other free time, Patrick spends time with his family. He met his wife, Ashton, while working at Firestone. At the time, Ashton worked as a delivery driver for Napa Auto Parts, and the two struck up conversations during her deliveries.

Patrick and Ashton have been married for eight years and have two daughters, Rylie and Reagan, who are the age of three and one, respectively.
