2022 Second Half EOM Honorees Then and Now

Compass Precision keeps a very high standard for all of its employees. Then, when an employee matches or exceeds that standard, they are rewarded.

One of the most public ways Compass Precision rewards its employees is with its Employee of the Month program. Since March 2020, Compass has honored one of its own with this title every month. That candidate receives recognition through a published story on the company’s website, which is then posted on social med

Bergeron Machine office manager Joey Sum became the 58th Compass Employee of the Month to begin 2025. Quality Products & Machine’s Al Farrar was the very first Compass Precision Employee of the Month almost five years ago.

In many ways, though, receiving the Compass Employee of the Month honor is not an end; it’s just the beginning of great things for many of the company’s best people.

Let’s now take a look back at the recipients of this award from the second half of 2022 to see what they are up to at the beginning of this year.

Matt Schiano – July

Matt served as the machine mill lead at R&D Machine for more than five years. Since receiving recognition as the Compass Employee of the Month, he has moved on to new opportunities. We wish him well.

Robert Melton – August

Robert has also transitioned from his position at Gray Manufacturing to a new company. He now works with former Gray general manager Jerry Soots.

Cesar Macias- Banuelos – September

Since becoming the first Compass Employee of the Month at Strom Manufacturing, Cesar has grown into an even more key setup and CNC programmer for the operating company. His goal is to become the lead programmer at Strom.

Strom Manufacturing’s Mike Strom said Cesar “demonstrates the can-do attitude” that Compass values. In his personal life, Cesar is expecting to become a father this summer.

Travis Eudy – October

Over the last two years, Travis has continued to excel in his role at Tri-Tec. While striving to advance his career, he has also maintained a strong focus on family. He has enjoyed memorable vacations with his wife, Racheal, and their daughters Navaeh (age 15) and Ava (age 13), including a recent cruise to the Caribbean.

Outside of work and travel, Travis remains an active supporter of his daughters, encouraging their participation in sports and community volunteer work.

Thom Amend – November

Thom continues to flourish in his role as R&D’s production manager. He is an intricate part in the company’s work flow through the shop floor and is an impressive resource of the products R&D has made in the past.

R&D Vice President and General Manager Justin Kovscek described him as extremely helpful in creating an efficient work environment and an “overall good person.”

Chris Mayes – December

Mayes has continued to experience a lot of success as Advanced Machining’s mill/turn operator. Operations manager Patrick Reynolds said he is “chugging along” and “happy as ever” with his role. Compass is also happy to have him.

“Compass excels when its employees excel,” explained CEO Gary Holcomb. “We are thankful for everything Matt, Robert, Cesar, Travis, Thom, and Chris have done, and are doing, to make us a great supplier to our customers and a great place to work. Compass is only as good as its people. I think we have the best in the business.”
