Company Purchases Haas VF-6 Machine with Fourth Axis
CHARLOTTE, NC – June 23, 2022 – Tri-Tec Industries, a Compass Precision operating company specializing in low-to-mid volume OEM components and part contract manufacturing, has purchased and installed a second 4-axis Haas VF-6 mill to provide additional operational support and production capabilities.
“This is our second 4-axis machine, and we began using it in March,” said Rick Loyd, Tri-Tec President. “We wanted to update and increase our technology assets to ensure the upmost quality and production for our customers while saving them money.”
The additional fourth-axis capability eliminates the need for manually indexing, which significantly cuts down production time. This will enable Tri-Tec to become competitive in bigger orders and/or for jobs containing more complex parts.
“The Haas VF-6 has a very large table, and we didn’t have the capability of doing large plates before acquiring it,” said Rick. “It provides a specialty for us, keeps us up-to-date and allows the company to meet the increasing volume of orders and productivity due the equipment’s efficiency and versatility.”
The VF-6/40 is the first of Haas’s large-frame 40-taper VMCs. These models come with an upgraded features package that includes a side-mount tool changer, chip auger, programmable coolant nozzle, high-power direct-drive spindles and remote jog handle.
“We love investing in new equipment with the latest, advanced features,” explained Gary Holcomb, CEO of parent company Compass Precision. “If the benefits are there for our customers and ourselves, we go for it.”
Tri-Tec prides itself on mission readiness and core company values. These aspects resonate throughout the entire organization and can be seen firsthand through quality, timely production to meet customer’s needs.
“We focus on the needs of the people and our mindset is to ensure the customers come first,” said Rick. “We care about quality and creating a family-oriented work environment that produces good parts in a timely manner for our customers.”
Tri-Tec operates from its 18k SF Charlotte, NC facility at 200 Peachtree Drive South. It provides solutions and quality parts to leading companies in the medical, industrial automation, and chemical processing markets and to other OEM’s across the southeast and globally.
Tri-Tec was founded in 1997. ZP Enterprises, LLC, an Atlanta-based firm, acquired the company in 2016. Compass Precision then purchased Tri-Tec and two other Charlotte-area CNC machining companies – Advanced Machining & Tooling and Quality Products & Machine – three years later. Compass has since acquired Gray Manufacturing Technologies (August 2020), Douglas Machining Services (March 2021) and R&D Machine (April 2022).
Tri-Tec has developed long-term, in-depth relationships with its customers and uses its 3 & 4-axis CNC milling, turning and light fabrication capabilities, including welding, as a true extension of customer manufacturing and engineering organizations.
