Josiah Hemby Joins Compass Operating Company
Charlotte, NC – August 3, 2022 – Compass Precision, a Charlotte-based manufacturer of custom, close-tolerance metal components for mission critical applications, announced Tuesday that Josiah Hemby has joined R&D Machine in Oldsmar, FL as a CMM Programmer and Quality Technician.
“This new role allows me to fully utilize the skills that I have gained in my combined 10+ years in metrology and manufacturing,” said Josiah. “It’s been fulfilling and a good challenge that keeps plenty of things on my plate to help me be more efficient while ensuring quality is number one priority.”
“We really like that Josiah has extensive experience in the aerospace industry,” said Justin Kovscek, Vice President and General Manager of R&D Machine. “He has a good, well-spoken demeanor that allows him to communicate with other machinists and programmers to help us be successful.”
The 28-year-old, Austin, TX native, looks forward to the new opportunity at R&D and continuing to flourish personally and professionally.
“I want to see what other opportunities there may be with cross-training and learning from other Compass Precision companies,” said Josiah. “I love the energy and initiative Compass has as an organization with the focus on the opportunity to progress and grow. I enjoy being a part of a team that’s supportive and takes care of their people.”
With the new opportunity comes a variety of obstacles and challenges, in which Josiah plans to use his unique skillset to improve quality, timeliness, and productivity.
“Attention to detail and efficiency are really important to me in making sure things are being done the right way,” said Josiah. “I care about things being right because it’s really important for what we’re building here. My goals are to implement new procedures and plans of action for continuous quality and production. I want to work with the team to constantly improve and utilize everyone’s knowledge and expertise to continue to thrive.”
Josiah’s immediate efforts and impact have been recognized first-hand by those at R&D.
“I’ve seen the outputs from his work and how it has benefited the company,” said Justin. “If we didn’t have those results, we wouldn’t be successful. He plays a critical role in streamlining inspections from ability to inspect every part on time and keep machines running as well as programming and CMM responsibilities. Our main goal is to get things done correctly and in a timely manner while ensuring quality and production.”
R&D Machine specializes in CNC machining of precision metal components for aerospace, defense, and space applications. Most of the company’s parts have complicated geometrics, are made of aluminum, and are used above the Earth’s surface, in either our atmosphere or in outer space.

This system ensures each customer receives machined components which dimensionally meet their part specifications and are finished correctly.
