Douglas Machining’s Kyle Vandermoon Becomes Honored Compass Employee
When selecting Compass Precision’s June 2022 Employee of the Month one clear-cut favorite came to mind as he continues to pride himself on excellence, attention-to-detail, and dedication to the overall success of the company. That employee is Kyle Vandermoon. Kyle, a machinist with Douglas Machining, has been with the company for 8 years and continues to strive for perfection while going above and beyond to ensure quality with each and every part he produces.
This type of recognition isn’t something Kyle takes for granted and resonates with him on a personal level.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the company,” said Kyle. “It’s a good feeling people are seeing what you’re doing on a daily basis and the quality that’s coming out of it. It’s a really good feeling and means a lot to me.”
The 35-year-old Minnesota City, MN native, accredits his successes to personal and professional mentors that have helped him grow and evolve over the years.
“My brother and Ben Kubis, the Co-General Manager of Douglas Machining, have always been there for me,” said Kyle. “Ben is easy going and always gets the job done. All the experience he has turns into knowledge for me. He’s my go to for any kind of expertise. My brother never quits working and has always been my go-to person throughout my entire life.”
Kyle’s journey of becoming a Douglas Machining employee is one that came about through word of mouth and learning more about the company.
“I worked on tugboats for 9 1/2 years, mostly harbor work moving barges,” said Kyle. “An employee of the organization came to me about the position and thought I’d be a good fit. He mentored me along the way. I thought it was cool with what you could make with the machines with high precision. I got really interested in it and all the technology you can use to make the parts.”
Kyle added, “I enjoy what I do, making the parts that people need. I take a lot of pride in it. The machining aspect and making the parts is what I enjoy the most about my job. Going from raw material to making the part is satisfying.”
Kyle’s success at Douglas Machining isn’t by coincidence or chance, it’s because of his desire to work hard and ensure every job is done in a professional, quality manner.
“I take pride in my work,” said Kyle. “I credit my success to the experience I’ve gained and the comfortable work atmosphere. My work ethic is really good, I enjoy accomplishing the mission and being productive. I feel people with a good work ethic are going to show up every day and get the job done, which helps better yourself. You’re going better yourself by putting in the time and taking pride in what you do.”
Outside of work, Kyle has goals and passions he would also like to continue to grow upon.
“I enjoy golfing and my brother and I own several properties in which we remodel to flip,” said Kyle. “I look forward to obtaining more properties in the future and hope to retire and continue to work together with my brother.”
