Bergeron Machine Production Manager Excelling

WESTFORD, MA – April 22, 2025 – Bory Vuth was never going to maintain his pace of earning a promotion once roughly every four months. That’s an impossible feat for anyone in any field.

But now settling into his relatively new role as Bergeron Machine’s production manager, Bory is thriving.

Since Bory assumed the role in September 2024, Bergeron has made several key changes that have helped the machine shop’s production, which in turn, has led to even more growing customer needs at the Compass Precision operating company.

“We’re in a much better position than we were last year I’d say,” said Bory.

As production manager, Bory has placed a huge emphasis on shop etiquette. That may sound inconsequential, but it can have a significant impact on productivity.

If one machinist borrows a tool but then doesn’t return it, the next person who needs that tool won’t be able to find it immediately.

“All that wasted time has been eliminated,” Bory said. “Instead of it taking an hour to find something, it takes five minutes because of our new emphasis on shop etiquette.”

Bergeron has also enforced a new system that two employees are responsible for bringing out new material. This has helped eliminate machinists accidentally grabbing the wrong material.

In March, Bergeron took another significant step in its transition to its new ERP system. When fully implemented, it will be “an all-in one system” where Bory and the other employees can check what jobs are running, how many pieces are running, how far along a job is and other things such as the company’s material inventory.

Bory said it will likely take another year for everyone to be fully comfortable with the system. But the machinists are already taking great strides in improving with the new system.

Put altogether, Bory is installing a much-more structured shop floor than what Bergeron possessed under its previous ownership prior to Compass’ acquisition in April 2023. The additional structure is helping the company grow.

”Bergeron has always been a successful shop,” explained Bory’s boss and Bergeron President Dave Giampa. “But as we grow, and especially as we take on new customers, we need better organization and more structure. Bory has been instrumental in providing the leadership to accomplish that.”

Since Bory became production manager in September, Bergeron has also started a weekend shift. That has kept Bory extremely busy. With three shifts to manage, Bory described his position as a 24/7 role.

But the Bergeron management team was excited to implement the weekend shift because of growing demands. Four employees, who were first trained for a few months on the first shift, currently run and program machines on the weekends.

Bory said he is looking forward to how the shift continues to grow with customer needs. But the Bergeron production manager is most excited about a new machine the operating company recently ordered.

Bergeron is adding a nearly brand-new Torno Multi-Swiss machine to its shop floor. The unit is an eight-spindle machine that has the ability to speed up programs Bergeron runs on its other machines by up to six times.

Coming from Germany, the Torno Multi-Swiss will take about three weeks to arrive after it’s shipped in early May. Bory said his goal is to have the unit fully operational by July.

Once completely operational, the machine will run large-quantity orders. This will further help Bergeron continue to meet increasing customer demands.

“On our single spindle machines, we’d have to use 2-3 machines just to keep up with the demand on one job,” Bory said. “It’s tough because it’s taking away from other jobs that need to be set up.

“With this, it’s going to be a game-changer for Bergeron.”

Bory, who received three different promotions from July 2023-September 2024, still plays disc golf every Sunday. He also spends as much time as possible with family.

But Bory dedicates most of his time to making Bergeron Machine more productive and an even better place to work.

Founded in 1948, Bergeron Machine is located in Westford, MA, which is about 30 miles northwest of Boston. The 14,700-square foot facility specializes in precision Swiss-style CNC machining.

Bergeron manufactures extremely tight tolerances and works with a variety of difficult-to-work-with materials such as Inconel, Monel and titanium.
