Company Adds DMG Mori NLX 2500/700 SY Turning Center to Increase Machining Capacity, Boost Productivity and Enhance Quality 

SALISBURY, NC – May 24, 2019 – Advanced Machining & Tooling, LLC, a leading manufacturer of precision metal components, with capabilities including both CNC and EDM (electrical discharge machining) machining, announced Friday that it has installed and started using a new DMG Mori NLX 2500/700 SY turning center at its Salisbury, NC facility.

“I am really pleased with our initial experiences using this new CNC lathe,” explained Keith Felts, Advanced Machining’s President, who co-founded the firm in 1985. “The addition of the DMG Mori NLX turning center greatly enhances our lathe capacity and enables us to take on more turning work from existing and new customers. We have already booked some jobs that we could not have satisfied without this machine.”

Felts continued, “Equally importantly, this new machine has twin spindles, live tools, and an additional Y-axis. We can use the machine as a simple lathe or a 4-axis milling machine or a combination of the two. This means that we can turn both ends of a part as well as mill slots, non-round features, drill off-axis holes, and other complex features with just one set up. The additional bar feeder allows for unattended machining. All of these capabilities increase our throughput and enhance quality because of reduced part handling.”

Advanced Machining operates from a 10,000-square-foot facility in Salisbury, NC at 215 Forbes Avenue. It manufactures complex prototype and low-to-mid volume metal parts, focusing on blue chip customers in the telecommunication, medical, aerospace and defense markets. Felts and Bobby Miller founded the company in 1985. ZP Enterprises, LLC, an Atlanta-based firm, acquired majority interest in the firm in 2011, then Felts purchased his partner’s share when Miller retired in 2015.

“Making the capital investment necessary to add this new CNC machine is another indication of ZP Enterprises’ interest to support the growth of Advanced Machining,” stated David Crow, Vice President at ZP Enterprises. “I worked closely with Keith and his team to justify this $300,000-plus investment. The early indication is that this investment will pay off handsomely for Advanced and its customers.
