Account Manager Brings Extensive Skillset and Homegrown Work Ethic to Aid Company in Future Successes

Behind every quality product is a team of individuals who sacrifice their time, energy, expertise and talent to ensure success each and every time. Working together toward a common goal and going above and beyond to provide satisfaction and timeliness reflects the organizational values and standards of Gray Manufacturing Technologies. These individuals may play distinct roles within the company, but the importance they provide in the overall spectrum of operation is vital each and every day.

Showing appreciation and highlighting those outstanding team members is a sentiment that Compass Precision takes pride in. Without quality people, there would be no quality products. One Gray team member who has embodied all of these important core values and wears a variety of different hats on any given day is Megan Murphy.

The Elon, N.C. native and soon to be newlywed has been with the company since November 2021. While she has been a natural fit for the role, the journey to get into the aerospace industry had a few stops along the way.

“I moved to Denver and wanted a change,” said Megan. “My parents own a carpet store in N.C., where I worked in sales for 10+ years. I was looking to switch things up after the move and I inquired with Gray about the position opening. I didn’t know much about the aerospace industry or the manufacturing side in the beginning, but it’s been very interesting learning so much. It’s a new path I’ve taken and I’m enjoying the journey.”

Her daily duties as account manager include but aren’t limited to providing liaison support between the shop and customers, updating and processing orders, shipping requests and quotes. She works closely with leadership on quotes, prices, order specifics and materials while handling outside processing. Her interaction and relationships with customers are critical to day-to-day operations.

“Before we hired Megan about a year ago, Gray lacked a person focused on customer contact,” explained General Manager Jacob Trahan. “Megan quickly stepped in and filled this important role. She does a great job of keeping track of purchase order changes to ensure we ship exactly what customers need when they need it. And she works well with everyone.”

Megan’s professional background has allowed her to notice the importance of establishing and appreciating success.

“Growing up with parents who had a small business I saw firsthand what it takes to be successful,” said Megan. “I feel you get what you put into it. You have to move forward with the times and constantly adapt. It’s important to apply yourself, treat the company like it’s your own and take pride in what you do. Put your all into what you believe in!”

While the past year has been filled with many new successes and accomplishments, Megan enjoys her role and looks forward to playing a vital part at Gray in the future and beyond.

“Gray is a small company with a big financial backing thanks to Compass Precision,” said Megan. “There’s so much potential for growth and expansion. I like an environment where everyone is helping out everyone. It’s exciting to see the final products and the impact they have on the industry. It’s pretty neat to know what the parts are being used for.”

Gray Manufacturing Technologies is an ISO9001 and AS9100D certified supplier of complex-geometry metal parts used for mission-critical applications by space, aerospace, and defense customers.

“I think everyone’s attitude makes you want to come to work here every day,” said Megan. “There’s a lot of things we depend on each other for. The teamwork is what I enjoy most and coming together for one common goal. We all look after each other and pitch in wherever needed. It a let’s get the job done mentality here.”

Since incorporation in June 2013, the company has purchased a state-of-the-art facility in Denver, NC, which houses its advanced 5-axis machining and metrology equipment. The secret behind Gray’s rapid success is the talented individuals who work on the team.

Gray’s highly skilled workforce has been in various venues such as medical implant and professional motorsports while also accumulating more than 40 years of combined certified aerospace experience. The diverse background of such talented individuals gives Gray the competitive edge when applying the most advanced manufacturing techniques in exotic aerospace materials. These strategies allow the company to not only meet but exceed expectations which saves customer’s time and money by helping them beat the competition to market.

Under Compass Precision, Gray continues to invest in highly skilled labor and the most innovative machinery. Gray now also has easy access to numerous additional resources through its sister companies — Advanced Machining & Tooling, Douglas Machining Services, Quality Products & Machine, R&D Machine, Strom Manufacturing, and Tri-Tec Industries — which further enhances the customer’s ability to do one-stop shopping.
