Compass Precision Operating Company Adds State-of-the-Art Inspection Equipment

CHARLOTTE, NC – February 24, 2026 – Compass Precision recently made top-of-the-line machining additions at one of its Charlotte locations. Naturally, the operating company did the same to expand its inspection equipment.

Quality Products & Machine, a Compass operating company which manufactures customer, close-tolerance metal components for mission critical applications, officially announced Tuesday it has purchased a new InspecVision Sheet Metal Inspection System.

The new inspection equipment greatly increases the speed at which Quality Products can inspect large parts, specifically sheet metal fabricated parts from the operating company’s new large 10kW fiber laser.

“This new inspection system is unbelievably fast compared to a traditional CMM,” Quality Products general manager Dustin Jones said. “It makes us so much more efficient. But also, it really, really drives and supports the new production equipment by allowing us to check in that two-thousandths profile very, very quickly.”

The InspecVision purchase was made with major intent to support the new equipment Quality Products added in September.

In the second half of last year, Quality Products installed a Mazak VTC300C vertical machining center and a Trumpf 10kW fiber laser with a large “non-standard” table.

“The new InspecVision was definitely part of a plan,” Dustin said. “We analyzed every piece of equipment and said, ‘What do we need to support the laser coming in? What do we need to support the new mills coming in?’

“Ultimately, what we decided and what we kind of saw was that we needed a quicker, faster-turnaround, higher-throughput inspection system.”

Similar to the new mills and laser Quality Products bought, the Compass operating company also added the InspecVision because the shop’s traditional CMM’s were overcapacity.

“Our new InspecVision system was purchased because we had a constraint or a bottleneck at inspection,” said Engineering Manager Alan Silva. “The new system is relatively easy to use and pairs so well with the rest of the new equipment we have at QP.”

Through its first few months in operation, the InspecVision has been tremendous in helping the operating company continue to meet and exceed customer demands.

The InspecVision is one of the many examples of CAPEX investments Compass has made throughout its 10 operating companies over the past year. Quality’s employees have enjoyed working with the new inspection system.

“The new InspecVision is a lot faster,” Quality Products Quality Engineer Alex Marothy said. “It checks the part overall and gives us great information. So, if we need to know something very quickly, it can handle that. It can do exactly what we need it to.”

The Quality Products 47,000-square-foot facility on Westinghouse Boulevard in Charlotte houses a complete complement of CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers, CNC lathes, CNC laser cutting systems, press brakes, punch presses, welding stations, and inspection equipment. It has approximately 35 employees and supplies customers down the street, across town, and around the country.

Compass Precision was founded in 2019 with the purchase of three precision CNC machining companies in the Charlotte area – Quality Products, Advanced Machining & Tooling, and Tri-Tec Industries. Compass has made seven add-on acquisitions since August 2020.

All Compass operating companies serve a diversified group of blue-chip customers in the aerospace & defense, space, semiconductor, medical, industrial automation, power generation, telecommunications, high tech, and specialty industrial markets.
