Tri-Tec Machinist Earns Outstanding Achievement
At the end of 2020, Julio Cachay moved to the Charlotte area for a new experience. He’s found that at Tri-Tec Industries.
Now a little more than three years later, Compass Precision has named Julio its Employee of the Month for April 2024.
”When Gary (Compass CEO) called and suggested I nominate someone from Tri-Tec for Employee of the Month, I immediately thought of Julio,” explained President Rick Loyd. “He hasn’t been with us very long, but he certainly is making a big impact”
Julio is the 49th employee of the month at Compass. He is also the seventh recipient of the honor at Tri-Tec.
Kalee Porter is the most recent Tri-Tec employee to receive the honor in May 2023.
Julio and his family moved to South Carolina from Patterson, NJ. Julio’s brother lives in Charlotte, so the move allowed him to be closer to family. But it also provided the family a quieter, more spacious lifestyle.
“I wanted to experience new things, a new job, learn new knowledge, so we moved down here.”
That wasn’t the first move in Julio’s life. After graduating from a 3-year college in his native Peru, Julio couldn’t find a suitable job. So, he moved to New Jersey when he was 22 years old in 1999.
In Paterson, NJ, he worked as a manual machinist for FR Machine. After more than a decade at the company, the owner elected to close the shop upon retirement. At that point, Julio transitioned into Robro manufacturing.
Julio has continued his career in manual machining at Tri-Tec. But he’s also learning how to operate CNC lathes and mills
“I focus on the manual but chip in wherever they need me,” Julio said. “I’m still learning, but they give me jobs to set up on the CNC machine and tell me I’m progressing.”
Julio said his favorite thing about working at Tri-Tec is his fellow employees.
“The environment. The people around here are nice,” he said. “I feel comfortable working here. The bosses have been so nice to me since Day 1. I’m happy to be here.”
Julio lives in South Carolina with his wife, Pierina, and two daughters, Yamileth (15) and Thais (12). The girls were excited to move to South Carolina because of how much they enjoyed visiting Julio’s brother over the years.
In his free time, Julio enjoys listening to music and watching movies. He listens to Latin music the most, but he has started listening to country music more often recently.
Julio’s favorite movie is Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith.
